Mum’s road safety banner removed by council
Beth Gilbert (36), of Beechwood Gate, was distraught at having to remove the 18ft by 3½ft tribute to Lanark Grammar pupil Jane, who was killed in a road smash in July 2013.
The banner – funded by road safety charity Brake – had been erected at the roundabout outside Braidfute Retail Park on November 20 but is now back in Beth’s home.

Beth thought that displaying the banner in Lanark would be a way of warning people about the potentially fatal consequences of getting into a car.
But she has learned that ‘a neighbour’ living at a property near Braidfute Retail Park complained to the council that the banner could distract drivers.
