Unconventional gifts for Mother's Day
According to the research by 118 118, of the 90 per cent of mums who celebrate Mother’s Day with their kids, the vast majority have only ever been bought traditional gifts like flowers and chocolates by their children.
But a quarter (25 per cent) of mums said they think their children could make more effort on Mother’s Day by buying more exciting, imaginative gifts, with 16 per cent of mums said they’d like to receive tickets to a great gig, and one in twenty (5.6 per cent) saying they’d give pole dancing a try!

The mums polled agreed they had received boring gifts from their children in the past, with some saying they’d received gifts such as a bag of horse feed, a frying pan, a garden gnome, a car seat cover and even compost for their special day!
Peter Trott, general manager at 118 118, said “We’re seeing more people access our service to organise fun activities around Mother’s Day, and families are beginning to reinterpret what it means to ‘treat mum’ by snubbing conventional gifts. Mums in the UK are obviously more adventurous than we thought, with some mums seeking out thrills in exciting days out with the family like pony treks, meerkat tours, craft retreats, helicopter flights and white water rafting!”
